The emphasis in this subject is on typical defects of the various types of roof coverings, drainage systems, flashings, skylights, chimneys and other roof penetrations. Students apply their knowledge of roofing to inspections that focus on system performance, safety concerns, and compliance with good construction practice.

Upon successful completion of this subject, the student will be able to:
	Inspect the following to identify type, material, condition, safety concerns and other issues: roof coverings, roof drainage systems, flashings and roof penetrations.
	Identify the common problems that apply to each exterior component named
	and the causes and implications of each problem.
	Describe the inspection procedures involved with each component.
	Define and use proper terminology related to roofing.
